Wounded Warriors Weekend A Huge Success!
The second annual Wounded Warriors Weekend was held in Nipawin, SK from August 1-6, 2014. Over 160 veterans from all over the world participated in the weekend’s events and were privy to true Saskatchewan hospitality! Events included fishing, golf, several concerts, barbeques, stand-up comedy by Wounded Warrior comedian Bobby Henline, and performances by the world-famous Canadian Forces parachute team, the Skyhawks!
The Warriors were welcomed with an Honour Guard at the airport, a luncheon at the R.C.M.P. Heritage Centre (with the Honourable Lieutenant Governor Vaughn Solomon Schofield), and streets and highways lined with thankful citizens waving their hands and flags proudly. The Warriors were escorted back to Regina with dozens of thankful bikers, and were joined in Regina by the Regina Police Services and by the Regina Professional Fire Services’ ladder truck! The Regina Police closed off Lewvan Drive for the cavalcade’s return to the airport and the officers stood outside of their vehicles and saluted as the cavalcade went by.
We at Saskatchewan Command would like to say a HUGE thank you to the volunteers who made this incredible event possible: Blake Emmons, Brenda Fredrickson, Verda Hoppe, Pat Varga, and everyone at Nipawin Br. No. 120, Regina Br. No. 1, Elrose Br. No. 206, and Pense Br. No. 341! We are certainly missing the names of many people, but please know that we extend our thanks to you all!
